Gardenia Radicans Variegata is a much-treasured low growing spreading gardenia that every self-respecting garden should enjoy.
This is a repeat flowering gardenia with double white flowers that regularly and completely cover the plant throughout spring summer and autumn. In warmer climates, blooms can appear in winter too. Unusually for a gardenia, the foliage is variegated with cream and grey-green leaves.
Radicans Variegata has shallow roots so it makes a stunning hanging basket and suits shallow containers or a rockery. If you’re struggling to plant beneath a tree it will cover the bare soil with grace.
This beauty loves sun to filtered sun and slightly acid soils, but if the leaves start to yellow it means the soil is deficient in minerals that gardenias need.
It’s a simple fix of applying Epsom salts or chelated iron onto the roots. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and those deep glossy green tones will soon return.
